New Web Site Showcases Up-And-Coming Street Photographers
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 17, 2008 -- The web has started a revival of street photography, and now there's a new site devoted to students of this exciting and challenging form of candid photography. The World @ Street Level (www.theworldatstreetlelvel.com) is dedicated to the work of students who have completed the four-week course, "Street Photography: Finding Order in Chaos" (http://www.ppsop.net/strt.aspx) online at the Perfect Picture School of Photography.
Street photography, practiced by such luminaries as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Frank, and Garry Winogrand, involves candidly capturing images in public places where people congregate. "Street photography is one of the most challenging forms of photography because the photographer doesn't interfere with what's happening, and as a result has little control over what's going on," notes Mason Resnick, a 30-year street photography veteran and former Garry Winogrand student who runs The World @ Street Level, and teaches the course. "The challenge for aspiring street photographers is to develop the skills to perceive and capture what's interesting, intriguing, humorous or ironic ways that engage the viewer."
The World @ Street Level offers galleries featuring photos by students who have completed Resnick's street photography course, as well as information about street photography, and testimonials from students who have taken the course. For instance Mike Mackay of Lichfield, U.K., says the class "has ignited in me a passion for photography that I'm finding difficult to contain. A great course!" while Gary Budke of San Fransisco, CA, says that the class "has opened my eyes to a whole new type of photography."
The goal of The World @ Street Photography is twofold: To provide visibility for student work, and to promote Resnick's online Street Photography course. The next four-week course in street photography begins on April 25; registration is now open at http://www.ppsop.net/strt.aspx. Most of this month's course will take place in May, which, as Resnick points out, is "ideal street shooting weather." Photographers who use either film or digital cameras are welcome.
To view the site, go to www.theworldatstreetlevel.com. To register for Street Photography: Finding Order in Chaos, go to http://www.ppsop.net/strt.aspx.
